Favorite comedians?

Who are they? I mean actual funny people too, not Dane Cook's.

I'm going with Mitch Hedberg, Bill Hicks, Daniel Tosh, Pryor, Chris Rock can be pretty funny, Bill Maher but I like his shows commentary more than his stand-up, Chappelle, Carlin of course...there's more and I'll add to it. A lot of **** comedians out there too, but somehow a lot of people soak them up(The whole Blue Collar crew and Cook for example IMO)

Tosh is on the same level with Cook.

1 of my personal favorites, and friend, is Jason Weems. He's great.

That's really ridiculous, wow. Cook doesn't tell jokes, he steals joke and tells long ass stories with no punchlines. Tosh is one of the best comedians with dark humor and satire, the two are nothing alike. One's funny, ones a loud and hyper talentless hack.

I didn't say I liked Cook, nor did I say Tosh was bad.
I just said they're on the same level, and they are. They're both "media" comedians. Tosh.0 and a lot of his stand-up jokes are written for him. Some of his things are funny, others are just not.

I spend a lot of time talking to comedians on a regular basis, and see comedy in a whole different light. I was actually offered stage time by Jason Weems in Baltimore/D.C. (no on has to believe me, but I ****ed myself when he offered).

The reason A LOT of comedians like Dane Cook are successful, is because the general population doesn't understand what's funny anymore. If you're the center of attention, and have a microphone in your hand, you will get laughs. People laugh just because they see someone else laughing. However, the "long ass" stories are what make comedians, EVERY funny comedian tells long ass stories, and they don't have to use punch lines. The funniest things that come from comedians are 85% truth. That's why they're so funny.

But, I'll add Kat Williams, Bob Saget, and Kevin Hart are hilarious.

Most people who think of Saget think of AFH, or Full House. He is one dirty comic. Very funny too.

Not at all, Cook took off with the Myspace boom and that's why he got big, Tosh was like most comedians and had nothing to do with that - just because he has a show, doesn't mean he's on Cook's level or got his name doing that.

Yeah comedians tell stories, that's a given, but two very different ways in what most do and what Cook does. He spends like an hour telling 3 long ass stories, with no clincher or punchline, just a lot of little comments he throws in during the story are his "jokes" and that's where it ends. Most comedians tell a short story, set it all up and knock it down - Cook just keeps going and going and going and that's his routine.

The best humor IMO is satire/sarcasm and any kind of dark humor. You have to have some sort of talent to deliver satire, it has to be witty and it's not your one-liner **** everyone can do. It also takes some intelligence to understand, that's why people soak up Cook's humor, it's simple and doesn't take really an ounce of intelligence to get, a lot of dumb people in this country and they like their humor the same way - dumbed down without requiring any real thinking. And dark-humor is the same way, it has to be delivered perfectly, otherwise you just look like a racist/sexist/bigot with a microphone. Touches on many taboo subjects and if you're a master at it, you can get away with making any subject funny - that's hard to do, because it's 1) a lot of it is sophisticated like satire and 2) it's hard to get people to laugh at something like that because people feel guilty laughing. Cook doesn't have the balls or talent to touch either, just the lame simplistic/generic jokes every douche fratboy in the world thinks is the funniest **** in the world and he's a master at that.

Being loud doesn't mean you're being funny. He's loud, steals material from real comedians and inserts puking sounds, jumps around and yells and morons soak it up like it's actual comedy. He sells a whole lot of tickets, but McDonalds sells a whole lot of cheese-burgers but it's still greasy ****.

Anyway, new season of Tosh on right now, and the new Sports Dome is on right after! I'm great for the next hour.
